    PM4 Racing

The PM4 was designed to communicate directly with other PM4’s so that up to 8 participants can race each other without using a PC. Once configured, you can use any one of the PM4’s to set up a race, have others join, and race.
      Wireless racing

The PM4 allows you to run computer-less racing with up to 8 PM4-equipped Indoor Rowers in the same room. This can be done wirelessly or using Ethernet patch cables.

    Limitations:
    Maximum of 8 participants.
No team racing, only time or distance races.
No display for the “Audience” like with Venue racing software on the PC.

Indoor Rower Setup for an 8-erg Wireless Race

To run a wireless race, the configuration of the Indoor Rowers is important. To ensure a successful race, situate the Indoor Rowers such that you have one bank of four Indoor Rowers facing another bank of four Indoor Rowers, with the maximum distance between Indoor Rowers on either corner being 3.3m. Refer to the following graphic.

To Access the Racing Functionality on a PM4:

    1. On the PM4 Main Menu, select Games.
    2. On the Games Menu, select Racing.
    3. One person, the race creator, selects Create Race and then Select Race Length to set up the race.
    4. Once the race is created, participants can join the race by selecting Games > Racing > Join Race.
    5. When all participants are ready, the race creator selects Start Race.
The race creator is always in Lane 1. Remaining lane numbers are assigned based on the order of entry into the race. The race screens display the names of any racers who are using LogCards.

If using Suunto™ chest belts, you must use cables to race. In certain environments where other devices (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.) are in use, Concept 2 suggests use of cables. Only one wireless race can be in progress at a time.

    Cabled Racing

For wired, PC-Less racing, you need to obtain 3m “Network” or “Ethernet” cables with RJ45 plugs on the end.
These cables are readily available from your local computer or office supply store.
Do NOT get “Crossover” cables, they will not work (crossover cables are used for direct computer to computer connections without a hub/switch in between and are usually specially marked).  Concept2 recommends Shielded Cables, however unshielded cables will work just as well for most applications.

Can I internet race with my PM4?

Yes, RowPro from www.DigitalRowing.com supports internet racing.
