The Maadi Cup 2019

Written by Concept2 NZ on April 1st, 2019.

The Aon Maadi Cup regatta is the National Championships for school rowing in NZ and the largest rowing regatta at that held annually in New Zealand. It is hosted by Karapiro Rowing at Lake Karapiro in Cambridge and South Island Rowing at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel on alternating years.

Maadi Cup 2019 wrapped up in Karapiro at the end of last week and what an incredible week it was- exceptional rowing, tight races needing photo finishes, weather dramas and a lively spirit of competition and school rivalry! There were over 2000 athletes from a record of 131 schools involved for the week battling for their spots in the finals that were held on Friday and Saturday that had an estimated crowd of over 8,000.

After a week of exceptional racing Saturday concluded with the infamous Levin Jubilee Cup won by St Margarets College and Maadi Cup won by Christchurch Boys High School winning for the first time.

There was some memorable moments from Maadi 2019 that we were honoured to witness. Congratulations to all the athletes that competed, and to all the coaches, supporters and volunteers that make this event so successful every year.
